The first annual New Works Series features workshop playreadings from the winners of our playwriting contest, along with the with actors mixed of industry professionals and BMP TOP TEENS.
We had 173 submissions this season. A panel of 20 readers selected our winning plays.

WILDS

Wilds is a surrealist play about intolerance, whose plot draws from social and political events of the past year, including Brexit, the United States’ election, Poland’s attempted total-ban on abortion, and the Syrian refugee crisis, particularly in relation to Hungary.  It is told in a series of short interwoven scenes of various plotlines.

STUCK

From the writer of BMP’s HOODIES and Trayvon Martin Project’s: Worthless, and Spare The Rod comes Stuck. The story of thirty-something, Jacob who is struggling with the acceptance of his homosexuality later in life while at the same time discovering his girlfriend is pregnant. He seeks counsel from his therapist who is battling her own demons. When faced with what to do, Jacob’s life and mind are a whirlwind of poetry and overwhelm. How will he move forward?

Meet the WILDS Team!

Tara Kromer (Director) earned her MFA at the UCF in 2015, where her research was focused on Directing and Sound Design. She holds a BA in Theatre from the UNCGreensboro. Her work has taken her to venues including Orlando Shakes, Orlando Rep, Orlando Fringe, Seaside Music Theater, and the Hippodrome (in Florida), Steppenwolf, Congo Square, Chicago Shakes(in Chicago, IL), New York Stage and Film, Potsdam Music Theatre, and the Hangar (in New York). Favorite directing credits include: The Giver (Orlando Repertory Theatre), Driving Miss Daisy, Wait Until Dark, and Greater Tuna (Athens Theatre), Ring of Fire: The Johnny Cash Musical (Potsdam Music Theatre),  Eurydice (Daytona State College), and My Pal Bette (interACTionz, Orlando). Paris Crayton III (Playwright) is an award-winning playwright, actor, and director. He has written over 40 plays, 14 of which have been produced around the country.  He was one of ArtsATL “30 under 30” and Atlanta Journal Constitution’s “Artist to watch.” Creative Loafing named him 2014’s “Best Local Playwright”  Critics have called him “a powerful dramatist” and praised him as “One of the most important playwrights of our time.” His plays have been presented and/or workshopped by New York Rep, The Lark, Classical Theatre of Harlem, Aurora Theatre, Clark University, Working Title Playwrights, Stage Door Players, Rising Sage Theatre, 3 Hill Productions, Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, Beth Marshall Presents, Indianapolis Fringe Festival and more.

Stelson Telfort (Jacob) is delighted to be returning to BMP in Stuck as Jacob. He is currently pursuing his BFA in Acting via UCF. Stelson’s recent credits include: Cory in Fences & Oshoosi Size in The Brothers Size (Mad Cow), Enobarbus in Antony & Cleopatra (Orlando Shakespeare), Fortune in Ruined (Valencia College), and Demetrius Williams in Hoodies (Beth Marshall Presents) which premiered at the Orlando-Fringe. He is grateful for this opportunity that he holds.

Kate Murray (Whitney) is a podcast host, entrepreneur, educator, performer, community upstart, #queminist, and all-around life explorer. Recently, she was seen in the Rocky Horror Pole Show at Orlando Fringe and in PRT’s Launch 2017, after returning from several years training with her troupe-away-from-home Burlesque Moulin Paris.

Coletyn P. Hentz (Mike) – This is Coletyn’s second show with Beth Marshall Presents, and is proud to be working with BMP once again! Recent credits include: Skylar/Dreaming Man (The Flick), Loner/Dylan Klebold (Columbinus), and Leaf ConeyBear (25th Annual Spelling Bee). Coletyn is a wearer of many “hats” including; Puppetry, Pantomime, Juggling, and Tap dancing. Coletyn is also a freelance producer/director/writer in which he’s currently working on his One-Man show “BlackJack or Bust”. Coletyn wants to thank his Family, God, and Truthful Acting for making him a better actor/person that he is today!
